Nevel, an advanced infrastructure company, has acquired two district heating networks from Orust municipality on the Swedish west coast. The district heating plants are located in Henån and Ellös with current production of 9 GWh per year. Customers are primarily municipal operations such as offices, schools and libraries, but also real estate companies, industrial companies and private households. The acquired district heating networks also include solar panels that generate about 300 MWh per year. The transfer of the networks to Nevel took effect on August 3, 2020.
“The most important criteria for Orust when choosing a partner were reliability of heat, sustainability standards and good customer service. Nevel is highly qualified when it comes to operating district heating networks, with a great deal of expertise in renewable energy for municipal and industrial operations. We have a long relationship with Nevel and are excited about the benefits that the collaboration will contribute to our society,” says Björn Martinsson, Technical Manager, Orust municipality.
Nevel has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of these district heating networks for over four years and knows the networks very well. Nevel owns more than 40 district heating networks, of which 17 around Sweden. With Nevel as a supplier, customers have access to customer service, e-invoices and newsletters, as well as the online portal with invoice history and information on current and past energy use.
“We are very pleased that Orust municipality has shown confidence in us as the new owner of these networks. With our experience and expertise, we can continue to make energy efficiency improvements and achieve economies of scale. We are also looking at the possibility of digitising the plants to further ensure the distribution of renewable and environmentally friendly district heating, at a competitive price,” says Peter Bäckström, Country Director at Nevel.
