Investments in Nevel’s Taebla boiler house in Estonia are strengthening operational reliability

Nevel is progressing with a significant modernisation of the Taebla boiler house in Estonia to improve reliability and long-term capacity at the site.

In operation since 2007, the facility has relied on a 2 MW main boiler supported by an oil-fired backup boiler. Ageing equipment, low efficiency and rising maintenance costs have underscored the need for renewal.

The investment project supports Nevel’s strategy to build future-proof utility infrastructure. It includes a comprehensive renovation of the boiler house and fuel storage facilities to secure efficient and reliable energy production. Key objectives include:

  • Upgraded fuel storage technology
  • Modernised maintenance platforms
  • Improved operational reliability and safety
  • Full operational capacity during winter demand.

Two 0,85 MW solid fuel boilers and several other enhancements were installed during the winter. Following these upgrades, the boiler house and fuel storage operate at full capacity and are performing well. Nevel’s team has been trained to operate and maintain the upgraded equipment. Minor finishing work on the maintenance platforms is still underway.

“The upgrade at Taebla is an important step in ensuring reliable, efficient and safe energy production. We are pleased to see the project moving towards completion. The team has done an excellent job together with our suppliers”, says Ülo Stokkeby, Head of O&M in Estonia.
