Driven by the growing need for energy efficiency across the industrial sector, energy company Nevel is looking for new opportunities in the Danish market.

Stefan Johnsson, Commercial Director for Scandinavian operations, Industry business, is leading the work at Nevel. “Danish industry is embracing new business models. By harnessing waste heat and optimising energy flows, companies can boost their energy efficiency, reduce their reliance on imported fossil fuels and cut their climate impact,” Johnsson says.

Nevel currently operates over 130 energy production facilities and more than 40 district heating networks in Finland, Sweden and Estonia. Leveraging digital platforms, the company optimises energy flows and enables more resource-efficient and circular energy use. In Finland, it is standard practice to harness waste heat and optimise energy flows in collaboration with specialised partners such as Nevel. A similar trend is gaining momentum in Sweden, and Denmark is next.

“Allowing energy to go to waste is bad for the climate and bad for business. In a time of high energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty, energy efficiency is becoming a competitive issue,” Johnsson notes.

Nevel designs, builds, invests in and operates energy solutions that make the industrial sector more competitive, less vulnerable and better equipped for the energy transition. Through outsourcing these tasks to Nevel, companies free up both their expertise and capital, which they can invest in their core business.

“Currently, only about 15% of the heat and steam energy infrastructure in Danish industry is outsourced. In Finland, the share is 70%,” says Johnsson.

Despite Denmark’s strong position in renewable electricity generation, approximately 35% of the country’s total industrial energy consumption still comes from imported fossil fuels. Nevel sees particularly significant potential within the food and beverage industry. The growing data centre sector is also highlighted as an industry driving demand for more advanced energy solutions.

“We see interesting prospects in the Danish market. The industrial sector is seeking solutions that boost competitiveness, reduce energy losses and make operations less vulnerable,” Johnsson highlights.
