Nevel, which offers advanced infrastructure solutions for industry and real estate, and the University of Vaasa are starting a collaboration regarding the test use of the university’s EnergyLab engine laboratory. Nevel will supply biomethane for the laboratory.
EnergyLab addresses the growing educational and research needs of the region’s energy sector companies. The research focuses on renewable fuels and the development of electrical systems for engines and power plants as well as the reduction of waste energy and emissions from energy production. In particular, the new research activities promote the goals of the green transition in maritime transport. The gas fuel system of the engine laboratory will be commissioned on 24 October 2024.
The test use of biomethane is a new addition to the engine laboratory’s operations, enabling unique research work at a Finnish university. Nevel provides the university with a service package that will flexibly meet the laboratory’s needs and quality requirements. The biomethane, delivered in shipping containers, will be connected to the university’s network.
“The research needs of the engine laboratory are changing and evolving rapidly. At the core of the research are emission reductions and the goal of carbon neutrality as part of the energy transition. The collaboration with Nevel supports our needs and advances our research activities, which comprehensively examine the technical, commercial and societal impacts as part of the ecosystem,” says Mika Grundström, Vice-Rector of Research at the University of Vaasa.
