Building a solid and sustainable platform for climate-positive growth

The geopolitical and economic factors that continued to impact the energy market have in many ways cemented Nevel’s vision and purpose. By working together with our stakeholders, our role is to drive climate-positive growth, towards building a more reliable, flexible and sustainable energy system for the future. During 2025 we continued strong sustainability performance and reached our key goals. We would like to thank all our stakeholders for their hard work and dedication during 2025.

Nevel’s 2025 sustainability report will be published later this year, and our sustainability programme is detailed on our website. Here is a summary of the key takeaways from 2025.

1. Health and safety – protecting people and assets

Safety is a cornerstone in everything we do. We want everyone to return home safely every day, and the proactive and preventive work we do enhances the safety of our personnel and assets. In 2025 our safety performance improved considerably in all measures. We remain committed to building a healthy and safe working environment with a zero-injury principle.

2. Delivering CO2 emission reductions

During the year, Nevel reduced the fossil fuel use in its operations. Increased investments in new technologies such as electrification, optimisation of fuel use and utilisation of side streams all brought concrete gains in terms of emission reductions. As a result, Scope 1 emission intensity in total energy production reduced significantly compared to previous year.

For example, Moelven Årjäng Såg AB and Nevel AB announced a strategic partnership to optimise energy use in Årjäng by driving local material efficiency. The cooperation, along with a new production facility, will enable fossil fuel use to be reduced – saving 340 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Selected Group entered into partnership with Nevel on behalf of RegEnergy Frövi AB to operate the energy infrastructure of its existing and upcoming greenhouses in Frövi, Sweden. The agreement leverages Nevel’s strong expertise in utility infrastructure and material efficiency solutions – benefitting both current production and the new greenhouse under construction. Nevel will invest in energy infrastructure on behalf of RegEnergy Frövi to further develop and secure efficient, reliable and sustainable operations.

3. Operational excellence – building flexibility and reliability

Together with our suppliers and partners, Nevel investigated various improvement opportunities relating to operational excellence during 2025. Focus areas included fuel and asset management, energy production, distribution and automation. This helps us further build flexibility and reliability so that we are well prepared to meet our customers’ needs.

The electrification of energy production supports progress towards climate goals and helps to optimise production, enabling the flexible use of different energy sources and participation in the electricity reserve market. We continued to invest in electrification solutions at selected plants in Finland, such as Forssa, Karkkila, Ii and Jokela. We also implemented numerous projects in cooperation with industrial customers such as Atria and Fazer.

4. Material efficiency – mitigating climate change by displacing fossil-based fuels

During the year we acquired Labio, the second largest biogas production site in Finland. The acquisition enhances our services for customers who are mitigating climate change by displacing fossil-based fuel. We also continued to improve operations at our other biogas plants, focusing on feedstock handling, optimising biogas production and distribution, meeting new capacity requirements and increasing sustainability. To further increase sustainability, we also entered into biofuel partnerships with Satamaito and Saint Gobain Isover in Finland.
