Nevel and Municipality of Eda in discussions regarding acquisition of Eda Energi AB
The Municipality of Eda in Sweden and Nevel, a utility infrastructure company headquartered in Finland, have agreed to cooperate regarding the planned acquisition of the municipal company Eda Energi AB, which is responsible for the distribution and sales of district heating in Åmotfors, Sweden.
A partnership already exists between Nevel and Eda Energi through which district heating produced by Nevel is distributed to municipal, household and industrial customers in the area. Through its site at Bruket in Åmotfors, Nevel supplies approximately 9 GWh of energy annually – the same volume that Eda Energi distributes.
“We have received an interesting offer from Nevel that we now want to take further in the political process. Although final decisions will be taken later, we see potential in having a company with a focus on sustainable energy production and energy efficiency take on greater responsibility in the municipality,” says Hanna Andersson, Chair of the Municipal Board.
Nevel has extensive experience in owning and operating district heating networks in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. The acquisition of Eda Energi would enable synergies in operations, maintenance, fuel procurement and technology development while ensuring service to customers.
The acquisition is expected to be completed in the coming months once the municipal council has made a decision and all necessary formal steps have been completed. The district heating service will continue as normal and no action is required from customers.
