Nevel is participating in the European hydrogen initiative NORHyWAY – a project that will help to establish Norway’s first large-scale ‘Hydrogen Valley’ and accelerate the transition to fossil-free energy systems. Led by Norwegian company RENERGY, the project has been awarded approximately 240 million Norwegian kroner in funding from the EU’s Horizon Europe programme.
NORHyWAY brings together stakeholders from across the entire hydrogen value chain and encompasses several application areas, including maritime, transport and energy systems. Together with GreenH, Nevel is involved in the Hydrogen for the Blue Economy sub-project, which focuses on hydrogen production for the maritime sector.
The project aims to evaluate commercial and technical opportunities for three future production facilities in Norway. The aim is to make the investment decisions during 2027, with operations scheduled to commence in 2030. The facilities will be built, owned and operated by GreenH.
Nevel’s role in the project is to contribute expertise on how excess heat from hydrogen production can be recovered and utilised efficiently. The work includes evaluating solutions such as heat pumps and other energy-recovery technologies.
“The project aligns well with Nevel’s ambition to drive climate-positive growth through the energy transition,” says Nevel’s André Svensson. By identifying opportunities for the utilisation of excess heat, we can contribute to improving both resource efficiency and sustainability in future energy systems.”
RENERGY is a Norwegian industrial cluster with over 100 member companies and organisations in renewable energy, industry and technology. The cluster is working to accelerate investments and the large-scale implementation of solutions within the energy transition.
Involving a total of 16 industrial partners, NORHyWAY is one of Europe’s larger initiatives for developing integrated and scalable hydrogen ecosystems.
