Solina’s subsidiary Puljonki Oy and Nevel Oy are expanding their cooperation at the Puljonki factory in Juuka, Finland. Nevel will provide refrigeration-as-a-service for the factory’s processes and cold chain. The surplus heat generated by the refrigeration plant will be used to heat the factory and for other process needs. The balance between cooling production and heating consumption will be optimised using intelligent automation and the solution is expected to be in use by the end of 2024.
Nevel’s solution represents the best available technology and uses environmentally friendly, natural refrigerants. As part of their cooperation, Solina and Nevel have implemented a local circular economy solution to convert organic by-products from the Puljonki factory into biogas and steam. Based on jointly agreed targets, annual CO2 emission savings are up to 1900 tonnes.
“We produce the refrigeration service that the Puljonki factory requires for food production using energy-efficient equipment and then handle the recovery and reuse of surplus heat in Puljonki’s processes. With our solution, Puljonki can focus on their core business while we ensure environmentally friendly management of the factory´s energy flows”, says Andrej Solovian, Sales Manager at Nevel.
“As part of the Solina Group we are very proud to be able to build on our sustainability journey and be able to deliver our environmental impact of 100% renewable energy as well as reduce Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030”, says Sonja Vanhala, Factory Manager at Puljonki.
The project has received energy investment funding from Business Finland.
