The defence industry is a very demanding sector, with extremely high standards for energy production. For high-tech processes to run smoothly, a reliable energy partner who can deliver disruption-free heat distribution is a must. In 2015, Patria was looking for alternative solutions for their heat-production needs at their site in Jämsä, Finland. Nevel answered the call with a competitive solution and security of supply.
Nevel built a modern boiler facility for Patria’s production site, providing heat for the defence, security and aviation group’s local needs. The facility operates on solid fuels, providing a capacity of 3 MW, with a 7 MW liquefied gas plant as backup. Heat is also distributed through the local district heating network. Unique to this case, the network is supplied with exceptionally high temperatures, which are necessary for Patria’s processes. Environmental factors have also been carefully considered in order to protect groundwater. The facility is operated remotely 24/7 from the Nevel operation centre, enabling data gathered at the facility to be used for optimising energy efficiency.
”Nevel was able to meet our strict demands. They propose solutions to issues proactively and respond to changing situations fast. We have been improving the network together while gaining valuable insight on all aspects of operating a district heating network.”
Nevel and Patria joined forces to develop the operations of the facility and the local district heating network. The two organisations are in regular contact and continue to monitor and review the operations closely. The data gathered at the facility has made it possible to address issues in the network more efficiently with a focus on predictive, rather than reactive, maintenance. The result is a reliable energy supply chain that meets Patria’s high quality standards.
